How to put God first in your life?

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33.

Taste and see, this is True.

Are you looking for love, security, stability etc. etc. etc? Then stop chasing after them. And stop seeking them from the wrong people and places. They will never be able to satisfy your soul. People will disappoint you, they will infact leave you when you need them the most. Your finances come and go, times will change and so will your needs and desires, but HE will never leave you or forsake you. HE does not change, JESUS is the same, yesterday, today and forever.

Even if you were you get what you always dreamed of, you will always long for more, because the void in your heart, that emptiness in you will also grow. Your flesh is one thing that will never be satisfied. On the contrary, you may one day come to a point, where you will want to give up everything you have to just get a little bit of peace, that joy and unconditional love, but why wait till you reach that point?

Today, examine yourself to see who or what really is first in your life?
1. Your spouse/friends/family
2. Your job/career
3. Money/Wealth
4. Social Media/Internet related activities
5. Yourself/flesh (I care only about myself!)

Whatever you give more time to, whatever takes the place of Jesus in your life is an idol and takes the first place in your life. I am not talking about shirking responsibilities as a man/woman of your home, or an employee or employer of your company, I am talking about what really drives you, for example, if you did not have that which is most important to you, will it cause you to lose your identity? Will it lead you to depression?

So, How do I put God first in my life?
1. Spend more time with Him: Not necessarily always on your knees with folded hands, no! Pray without ceasing means, to pray like you breathe. Do you cease to breathe? ofcourse not! So also, talk to God, while you are at work, while you to your household work, even while you take a walk or a bath. Talk to Him as a Father, Brother or your Best Friend. Share everything, every detail with Him, for your own sake.
2. Read the Bible daily:
Read the Bible systematically. Do not open it randomly (though at times God may lead you into it). You can read the Old Testament in the evening, a chapter a day, until you finish that book (e.g. Genesis), then move on to the next chapter. You can similarly read the New Testament in the morning. The point is read it and read it chapter by chapter, book by book.
3. Make Notes: Yes, any verse that strikes you, note it down in your notepad or diary. You can even write in detail what God is speaking you through a verse or a chapter even. A few days, months or years later, you can look back and see, how God was good and merciful towards you.
4. Practice/Implement: Merely reading the Bible and praying will not do. God says, obedience is more important to Him that sacrifice. So put into practice the nature of Jesus which He has given to you, if you have Believed. (the Holy Spirit). Strive to be like Jesus. If you have been lying, stop lying. If you have been stealing (even that paper or pencil from your office), stop it. If you have been breaking your promises, stop breaking them and keep you word. God never breaks His promises, He keeps it generations after generation.

So dear reader, please turn your heart to Him, and He will give you your heart’s desire. Stop chasing love, wealth or whatever it is you are chasing and follow Jesus, seek Him and He will give you what you really need.

Taste and see, the Lord is Good.

Come, Lord Jesus

As Your mercies, O Father, are new every morning,
Let my songs be new for Your glory.
May my mouth be filled with Your praise,
And may Your Name be Blessed now and forevermore.

King of Kings and Lord of Lords,
The fairest of all, my Saviour and God.
You are from Everlasting to Everlasting,
And Your Kingdom has no end.

Come, Lord Jesus, Come and take me Home,
To the place where there are no sorrows,
No tears, no toil, no sweat, no trials, no tribulations,
No sin, and no death.

Come Lord Jesus, and take me Home,
To that mansion sublime,
Through the Pearly Gates, on the Streets of Gold,
On the Sea of Glass, and to the Throne of Grace.

Blessed be the name O Lord,
Blessed be Your name.

Does God still speak to us? And How?

“Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk in it, Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.” Isaiah 30:21.

Yes. God still speaks to us. The same God who spoke to Noah and told him to build an ark, the same God who spoke to Abraham and told him to leave his father’s house, the same God who told the 12 disciples to follow Him, the same God who asked Paul why he was persecuting Him? that same God through His Son Jesus Christ speaks to us today. The question however is are we listening to His voice? Now more than ever we desperately need to hear His voice and know His will for our lives.

God can speak to us however and whichever way it pleases Him, it ultimately depends on how He wants to communicate and make His will known to that Child of His. Nonetheless here are three primary ways God speaks to us today:

  1. Through His Word – The Bible:
The Bible is called God’s Word. I like how Uncle Angus Buchan, the South African preacher puts it – “The Bible is God in Print”.
So the primary means of God’s communication to His children is the Bible. The Bible has many promises, consequences, commandments, instructions, directly from God. It has many stories and testimonies for us to learn from, so as to not repeat the mistakes and sins committed by even great men and women of Faith.
The Bible is our “Daily Bread”, it is our Heavenly Manna, it is the Bread of Life. Read it daily, to know the mind of Christ, the Heart of God and the power of the Gospel.
  2. Through His Holy Spirit:
Jesus told His disciples before ascending to Heaven that He will send them the Helper, that Helper is the Holy Spirit. The same Helper is in us, i.e. in those who have put their trust and faith in God’s begotten Son – Jesus Christ, for their Salvation, to escape the wrath of God and to receive His forgiveness and everlasting life. This Holy Spirit of God will give us peace in times of storm, it will guide you and help you to take wise decisions and give you the perfect peace and joy before you take a decision in life. He will also convict you if you are heading outside the Will of God. Be still and know that He is God.
  3. Through your Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
Do not go to your brothers or sisters in Christ immediately after you face challenges or in case you need an advice… Jesus, must always be the first Person you go to in Prayer and through the meditation of His Word (reading the Bible). It could be that God will send a brother or sister in Christ to you with a Word of advice. Or after spending time in prayer, you may feel the need to speak to a brother or sister, to know their view about a particular situation. I remember (before receiving Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour) when I was reading and praying without ceasing, to know the truth, to get some peace, to know that there is hope for my future… When I was completely cast down, God sent a brother in Christ (my childhood friend), to share that message of Hope, the message of Everlasting Life in Christ Jesus, and that is when I decided to follow Jesus and stopped listening to other gloomy voices in my head.

Our ultimate purpose in life is to Glorify God. So let us spend more time in prayer, meditating on His Word and following the guidance of His Holy Spirit to remain in the perfect will of God.

When God seems silent…

“For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14

You know the word God is not mentioned in the book of Esther even once, neither the word Prayer, atleast in KJV and NKJV. This should still make our hearts glad, because deliverance did come and it was none other than God Himself who delivered the Jews from that wicked Haman.

Many a times we may also feel that the Lord is just silent or absent from our trials and tribulation, but be of good cheer as our Lord would say, HE is very much in our midst, in the midst of the storm, HE is our ever present help in times of trouble. Like Esther there comes a time when we need to fast (and pray) to our Lord, for deliverance from our trials and victory over the enemy. Even if you feel God is silent, just go to Him in prayer, for He will surely answer by delivering you. He has promised this in His word – Ps. 50:50, Call unto me in the day of trouble, I will save you and you will glorify me”.

Remember, HE is not only our GOD and MASTER, but even more now through JESUS, Our FATHER. The battle therefore belongs to Him. The Word of the Lord in 2 Chronicles 20:15 says, “Thus says the Lord to you, Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” Verse 17 is even more reassuring, “You will not need to fight this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord… Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them for the Lord is with you.”

Dear Father, we are glad that You are always attentive to Your children, You always hear our cry and answer our prayer. Even when we feel you are silent and faraway we know that You are always near and silently fighting for us. Thank you for Your promise that You will never let us be disgraced or ashamed and that whenever we will call You, You will answer and deliver us. We praise you and glorify You, to You alone be all glory and honour. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!

Inquire of God, again and always

“Therefore David inquired again of God, and God said to him, ‘you shall not go up after them; circle around them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees.” 1 Chronicles 14:14

There is a reason God called David, a man after His own heart. David inquired of God time and again, for everything. Before attacking his enemies, even before setting up a strategy to defeat his enemies, while fleeing from his arch enemy etc. David always inquired of God, and God would tell him what to do, sometimes not always he had planned, like in this verse quoted above.

You know, many a times we want to hear from God what we want to hear or what our flesh wants us to do. AW Tozer puts it plainly, “Most Christians don’t hear God’s voice because we have already decided we are not going to do what He tells us to do.” This is so true. If you remember the story of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah (another king after David who would often inquire of God), when he visited Ahab, the king of Israel, we see that Ahab did not like to hear the voice of God because it went contrary to his fleshly desires. So God had to send a lying spirit to him to tell him what he wanted to hear and to persuade him to go to war. God did speak to him that day through Micah whom Ahab despised and imprisoned, but he chose to listen to those lying spirits that resulted in Ahab’s death.

So you see, if you want to truly hear God’s voice, you must be truly willing to obey His commands and do His will even when it goes against our flesh. And if we are willing to truly obey God at all cost, God will speak and we will hear His voice.

And how does God speak to us today? Mainly through His Word – The Bible, He may confirm His word to you through circumstances, through people, perhaps even through dreams, but He will not contradict His word, His Command or His promises. So ask God to give you His discerning Spirit and a willingness to obey Him at any cost.

Dear Father, please give me a willing heart and obedient heart, for obedience is more important to You than sacrifice. And help me to hear your voice and obey you at any cost, even when it goes against my fleshly desires. For you Lord, in all things and at all times desires to give me you best and glorify Your name through my life. In Jesus name, Amen!

HE Will Rescue You

“Therefore say to the children of Israel: I am the Lord; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments… And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the Lord.” Exodus 6: 6 and 8.

The Lord is telling you the same, He will indeed rescue you and deliver you from every satanic bondage. You need only need to ask and cast all your burdens to Him; And He who hears your cry, will deliver you.

One of my favourite Bible verses, infact, it’s a promise from Psalms 50:15, “Call unto me in the day of trouble, I will save you and you will praise Me.”

Each time I was in trouble, each time I needed to be rescued, I reminded my Heavenly Father about this promise, and I tell you, each time He came to my rescue and delivered my out of all my troubles. Praise the Lord.

Dear Father, I pray that whoever is reading this and if he/she is under any bondage, whether financial, spiritual or physical, or even under any demonic stronghold, I pray, you come to their rescue and deliver them from all their troubles and every kind of bondage. You save them and let them praise You. In Jesus name I pray, Amen!

Lift Up Your Eyes

“And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are – northward, southward, eastward and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.” Genesis 13:14-15.

God further tells Abram in Genesis 13:17, “Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.”

Our God is a wonderful comforter. Abram was close to his nephew Lot, so the separation from his brother’s son did hurt him. But God was with Abram. After Lot took the best of the land and left Abram with a wasteland, the Lord comforts Abram and reminds him of His promise to Abram and his descendants.

The same God is with us. Probably you are in similar position as Abraham was, you helped a friend, a relative, a brother, and it left you in pain, in an uncertain situation. But God is with you.

No matter where you are and what situation you are in, our Heavenly Father is telling you today, lift up your eyes and look from where you are – northward, southward, eastward and westward. You are more precious to Him than sparrows, now even more so when you are His child. He is telling you that all the promises in the Bible are yours, you need to walk through it, claim it and believe it, for the Lord, our Father, promises to give it to us.

Dear Father, I thank you for your wonderful promises in the Bible. Today I claim them, and receive them by Faith in your Son Jesus Christ. You O Lord are the same, yesterday, today and forever. In Jesus name. Amen!

Is there anything too difficult for the Lord?

“Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.” Jeremiah 32:17.

Dear reader, today no matter what challenges, difficulties, impossibilities, hopelessness etc. you must be going through, just ask one question to your soul, is there anything too hard for the Lord? The answer to this question is a big No! Nothing, absolutely nothing is too difficult for Him. “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Luke 18:27. Casting all your cares on Him for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7.

These Bible verses are quite clear and in plain language, Jesus cares for you and therefore cast all your cares, worries, anxieties, challenges, fears, impossibilities upon Him. Cry out to Him, remind our Lord His promises, worship Him and praise Him. And He who knows your name and He who knew you even before the foundation of the earth, will come to your rescue. He will walk with you and not let you be burnt, He will not let you be drowned, but He will walk with you through the fire, through the waters and bring you out of them all as He promised in His Word. Know this, God is not man that He should lie, He promised and He will deliver, but dear reader, you must also do your part, which is trust in Him, confess and repent of your sins, and if you are not His, then first come to Him and believe in God’s only Son, Jesus Christ whom He sent to lay down His life for you, for the redemption and forgiveness of your sins, and also believe that God raised Him from the dead on the third day.

Take all things to God in prayer and worship Him in Spirit and Truth.

Dear Father, we come to you in Jesus name and ask you to keep your Word and rescue us from our troubles, and help us overcome our challenges. Lord, we praise You, for You never leave us nor have forsaken us, but are walking with us through this fire and water without allowing us to be burnt or drowned. Thank you Father for bring us through this all and refining us to through this all. In Jesus mighty name, Amen!

Learning to Listen God’s Voice

1 Samuel 3:10 – “Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.”

What a privilege it is to hear God’s voice. It is a huge privilege in itself to come to God’s throne boldly in Jesus name, and to place our requests and praises to Him, but I believe it is a greater privilege to be able to hear God’s voice. God speaks to us always, and prayer after all is not a one way communication, it is a two way conversation between God and man.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27.

“Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.” Ps 25:4-5.

How do we listen to His voice? Mainly by reading His Word, by memorising scriptures and asking God to help us hear His voice. Any other voice that you hear in your head or dream in your dreams, if it goes against the Word of God, is certainly not of God, and thus you can discern between His voice and other voices.

Dear reader, we can know Him intimately only if we spend more and more time with Him. Our relationship with our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ is like any other relationship, the more time we invest in that relationship, the more we talk to that Person, the more we get to know Him and the more He will know us (although Jesus knows us already, even before the foundation of the earth). So let us spend more time with Him in prayer, and ask Him to give us the Spirit of discernment, so that we learn to recognise His voice and follow Him alone.

Dear Lord, open our ears that we may hear Your voice, and open our eyes that we may see Your wonderful works, and give us the Spirit of discernment, that we may be able to discern between right and wrong, good and evil. Help us to spend more and more time with You in prayer and reading Your Word and help us to obey all your commandments, that we may hear those wonderful words – “Well done, good and faithful servant”. Into your hands we commit ourselves. To You alone be all glory and honour, now and forevermore. Amen!

The Lord will change their hearts in His time.

Proverbs 21:1 – “The king’s heart is in the hand of the┬áLord, as the rivers of water: He turneth it whithersoever He will.”

If the heart of a king is in our Lord’s hand, how much more the heart of our dear and near ones? Some of you might be praying for the salvation of your loved ones, you do not want them to die in their sins, you want them to know our Lord and Saviour, the one and only one who can save our souls and fill our emptiness with His perfect love, but they just don’t get our Lord. They just don’t understand His love, they just can’t see Him for who He really is, He is invisible to them and worse unreal to them. Don’t lose heart dear reader, take it to our Lord in prayer, remind Him of this verse and know for sure that their hearts are in our Lord’s hand, and He will turn their hearts towards Him in due time.

Some of you may be facing a difficult time at work or in your neighbourhood as well, but again, ask the Lord to change their hearts in your favour, and He will make even the head of your organisation and your worst persecutor to turn their hearts in your favour.

All things are possible for our Lord. Nothing, absolutely nothing is impossible for Him. As long as we are with Him, He will remain with us and help us grow in wisdom and in stature before God and man.

Praise Him, praise Him all the time and don’t lose hope. Trust in Him.

Dear Father, thank you for always being there for us, for taking good care of us. Lord, we know that in due time you will make our loved ones, our entire household turn to you, you will save them. We know that they are sleeping now, and you will raise them up to you, for your glory, in your perfect timing. We also all those people into your hands who are so very difficult to us, help us to forgive them and to love them and turn their hearts in our favour. To you alone O Lord be all glory and honour and praise. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
