Learning to Listen God’s Voice

1 Samuel 3:10 – “Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.”

What a privilege it is to hear God’s voice. It is a huge privilege in itself to come to God’s throne boldly in Jesus name, and to place our requests and praises to Him, but I believe it is a greater privilege to be able to hear God’s voice. God speaks to us always, and prayer after all is not a one way communication, it is a two way conversation between God and man.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27.

“Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.” Ps 25:4-5.

How do we listen to His voice? Mainly by reading His Word, by memorising scriptures and asking God to help us hear His voice. Any other voice that you hear in your head or dream in your dreams, if it goes against the Word of God, is certainly not of God, and thus you can discern between His voice and other voices.

 Dear reader, we can know Him intimately only if we spend more and more time with Him. Our relationship with our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ is like any other relationship, the more time we invest in that relationship, the more we talk to that Person, the more we get to know Him and the more He will know us (although Jesus knows us already, even before the foundation of the earth). So let us spend more time with Him in prayer, and ask Him to give us the Spirit of discernment, so that we learn to recognise His voice and follow Him alone.

Dear Lord, open our ears that we may hear Your voice, and open our eyes that we may see Your wonderful works, and give us the Spirit of discernment, that we may be able to discern between right and wrong, good and evil. Help us to spend more and more time with You in prayer and reading Your Word and help us to obey all your commandments, that we may hear those wonderful words – “Well done, good and faithful servant”. Into your hands we commit ourselves. To You alone be all glory and honour, now and forevermore. Amen!

The Lord will change their hearts in His time.

Proverbs 21:1 – “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: He turneth it whithersoever He will.”

If the heart of a king is in our Lord’s hand, how much more the heart of our dear and near ones? Some of you might be praying for the salvation of your loved ones, you do not want them to die in their sins, you want them to know our Lord and Saviour, the one and only one who can save our souls and fill our emptiness with His perfect love, but they just don’t get our Lord. They just don’t understand His love, they just can’t see Him for who He really is, He is invisible to them and worse unreal to them. Don’t lose heart dear reader, take it to our Lord in prayer, remind Him of this verse and know for sure that their hearts are in our Lord’s hand, and He will turn their hearts towards Him in due time.

Some of you may be facing a difficult time at work or in your neighbourhood as well, but again, ask the Lord to change their hearts in your favour, and He will make even the head of your organisation and your worst persecutor to turn their hearts in your favour.

All things are possible for our Lord. Nothing, absolutely nothing is impossible for Him. As long as we are with Him, He will remain with us and help us grow in wisdom and in stature before God and man.

Praise Him, praise Him all the time and don’t lose hope. Trust in Him.

Dear Father, thank you for always being there for us, for taking good care of us. Lord, we know that in due time you will make our loved ones, our entire household turn to you, you will save them. We know that they are sleeping now, and you will raise them up to you, for your glory, in your perfect timing. We also all those people into your hands who are so very difficult to us, help us to forgive them and to love them and turn their hearts in our favour. To you alone O Lord be all glory and honour and praise. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!

A Friend who sticks closer than a brother

Proverbs 18:24 – “A man who has friends must himself be friendly,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

This verse is so clear and simply said, for those who need friends or are looking for making new friends. If you want a friend, you must first be friendly. “Do to others as you would have them do unto you.” Luke 6:31. However dear reader, remember this, no matter how good a friend you are or how good a friend you have, your earthly friend will not satisfy your soul, he/she will not and is not your source of joy, peace and happiness. God has blessed you with a good friend, but he/she may not, rather, will not, always be there for you, especially in your most desperate hours.

There is however a Friend who sticks closer than a brother. He is your 2 am, 3am, all weather Friend. He will never leave you nor forsake you. It says in Psalms 27:10, “Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.” He alone can satisfy your soul. He alone will make you whole, not your wife, not your friend, not even your parents, but Jesus alone can and will give you your hearts desire, and He alone can and will fill the void, the emptiness in your heart.

So dear reader, if you need a friend, or a companion, tell Jesus, and He will give them to you, but do not give to them what belongs to God. Know this, they will fail you and disappoint you, because they are also humans, but Jesus, is that Friend who will stick to you closer than a brother. He will never leave you, He will with you in the fire, to ensure you are not burnt; He will be with you in the water and ensure you are not drowned. He will bring you out of it all.

Before you go to anyone with your problems and worries, before you even share your joy and happiness with anyone, take it to Jesus first. Give Him the first portion of your everything. He alone can fill the emptiness in your heart.

Dear Father, thank you for your Son, Jesus Christ, who laid down in life for me, even while I was still His enemy, in due time, Christ died for me. He rose up again on the third day and justified me and made me blameless and holy in Your site. Jesus you are my Best Friend, and indeed a Friend who sticks closer than a brother. I need you alone Lord Jesus, and You alone can give me my hearts desires and You alone can fill the void and emptiness in my heart. Thank you for never leaving me, for being so patient with me, and for making me part of Your Family. To You alone be all glory and honour, now and forever. Amen!

Praise HIM in all Seasons

“17. Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines;
Though the labor of the olive may fail,
And the fields yield no food;
Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
And there be no herd in the stalls—
18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.

19 The Lord God is my strength;
He will make my feet like deer’s feet,
And He will make me walk on my high hills.” Habakuk 3:17 to 19

This is one of my favourite Bible verses because there is so much hope even in deep anguish and anxiety.

How often do we praise God? He is worthy of our praise, not only in good times, but more so in the storms of our life. As that old Sunday School song goes, Praise Him in the morning, Praise Him in the noon time, Praise Him, even when the sun goes down. After all Jesus is not a wishing bell or a jeannie whom we call out only in times of need. He is our Father, our King and master, and we ought to praise Him and worship Him in spirit and in truth.

I used to treat Jesus as a jeannie in the bottle, call Him only when I needed something, but as my relationship with my Heavenly Father, and my best friend – Jesus Christ grew, I call Him all the time. I have learnt to praise the Lord even in the storm and in the calm. Dear reader, Jesus is more real to me than my family whom I can see and He alone can be your perfect Father, Mother, Best Friend, your all. But like anyother relationship, this relationship also requires you to invest a lot of quality time for it to grow, flourish and for you to bear good fruits.

Dear Father, thou art truly wonderful, ever present in times of our need. You hear our silent cry and you see our hidden wounds, and you are and have always been there for us. Please heal our wounds and wipe away our tears and draw us closer to you. You alone are good and gracious and to you alone be all glory and honour, now and forever more. Amen!

Call Unto Me in the day of Trouble

“Call unto me in the day of trouble, I will save you and you will praise me”. Psalm 50:15:

God is not man that He should break His promises or lie. As all His promises, this one has also been very true and real to me. Every time I was in trouble or needed deliverance from any problem, I would cry out to Him, call out to Him and ask Him to deliver me and rescue me yet again, as He did it in the past. And Everytime, He would deliver and I would praise His name.

Run to Him dear reader, run to Him whether you are in trouble or in haven; run to Him when you have done good and especially when you feel you are in the worse of worst situation. Our God hears and our God delivers, just call out Him name – JESUS, and He will deliver you and you will praise Him.

Dear Lord, you are good and gracious, you are not man that you should lie and not keep your promises. You O Lord have also kept your word and have always heard the cry of your children, and you have always delivered us from our troubles and from the evil one. To You o Lord be all glory and honour, now and for ever more. Amen!

Why Jesus?

Because He really is all you need.

When you are down and out, He will be your comfort and strength.

When you were still His enemy, He shed every drop of His blood and laid down His life for you.

Because He rose up again on the third day.

Because He cared when no one really cared about you.

Because He was, Has been and still is extremely patient with you.

Because even when He disciplines you, He loves, cares for you, and refines you.

And because if you could only see with His eyes, you will know that He is your true happiness, your source of joy and real peace.

Jesus is all you need and He is enough for you.

I know, because I have been through, and have experienced HIS grace and mercy.
